GameBall Maize Maze is finally live

Our first project with Brandissimo is finally live, and sitting on the NFLRush site.

Just to caveat the excitement a little, the NFL site requires a sign up, and I'm sure it may be a subscription service ( Read: You've got to pay ) [ EDIT: Nope, its free, just needs a sign up. Sorry about that, and thanks to Andy for pointing that out ]

To compensate for this, I'm just going to post some screen shots, a couple from the intro movie, and one in-game one. Then in conjunction with the development posts ( For some joyous reason I can't look back at old posts and be logged in at the same time, which means I can't just simply give all the dev. posts a GMM category and then just refer you to the tag cloud. Cosmic. So instead, the development ran from the start of Sept '08, to the 1st Oct. Cutting edge blog technology in all it's glory ) you can use your imagination to play the game.
That's got to be better than actually playing it hasn't it ? I mean you can imagine any old mental things. For example, I'm imagining that I had the time to scroll the screen rather than just making it flick...

A really enjoyable project, some great assets to work with ( I'd never have opted for that art style in a million years ), some great people to work with at Brandissimo and quite a nice little game at the end of it. All good.

    Wow, that looks like a fun game. Shame it's behind a password or subscription. I'll go check it out and if I can find a way to play for free I'll promote it on our site.

    That'd be cool if you could.

    It's a real pisser when you release a game that only a real minority of people can play ( It's like "Signs of Life", which is UK locked. That should be huge, but because of both the region lock and the fact that it was developed mainly by contractors, so there's not a lot of people with a vested interest in pimping it as there would be if a design agency was behind it ).

    Such is life.

    I sent it over to Marz, who is doing our game reviews in her 56K Connection column. She is going to do the review as she loves cute games like this. The game is behind a password/login, but you don't have to pay to get play. It's region locked?  Shame. You guys should do a GYW version with the engine and put it up yourselves.

    That's odd, I wonder if they're just pre-hyping it then ( Which means this post was a bit premature ).
    I really wouldn't go to a huge amount of effort to play it mate, it's a very light weight and throw away game ( In fact, I think it'll just be a lot easier if I send you the swf :) ).

    As to the using the engine ourselves... after doing a game of a specific genre we really have no desire to go back to it for a long while, if ever.
    Not since the "Day of the Warm Beer" have we had any real "Damn, I wish this was our game" feelings towards anything.

    Also, as we see it the client has paid for the game, so it's theirs, not ours. It just feels a bit naughty to reskin something that we've just been paid to do.

    The art looks really good, dudes... And I'm sure that this game is a sexy thing to play with :)
    (Does is use a bit of Fuel Factor-Y's engine, by any chance?)

    Now that's funny, because I'm in relationship with Brandissimo (well, not personally) for some flash works too :)
    The world is that small (that, OR you are getting all the work from them, and that's why it's taking ages for me, haha).

    hey m, about time you posted here.

    The engine was remade from scratch, no Fuel Factor-Y code in there. The main reason being I totally cheated the depth sorting in FF ( Remember it was all done in 8 days, and 6 of those must have been amends ;) No time for anything clever in that game, if I could cheat something then I did ).
    Although I'm guessing if you've had to reskin it you've noticed that some corners were cut ;)

    As to you being in contact with Brandissimo, yeah it's a very very small industry. Everyone knows everyone.

    Thanks for shout-out for one of our games.
    I have to tell you , we loved working with you on this game. It turned out way more awesome than we though and absolutely appreciate your inputs to take it to the next level. Jim Mortensen ( designed the game and those trippy cool assets. I got to animated the 'scaredy pooch' gameball and his animation cycles. We hope to more work with you in the near future.

    FYI, you can access all the games on  sign up with the 'free' account to play the games you developed.

    Working on that game was a ton of fun. This one kinda slipped in under the radar for a while, so I was able to really put time into the game.

    Thanks a TON for putting the extra time into it. It really shows - you did an amazing job.. The game was my baby (though not my concept) for a while and I'm really happy that it turned out so great.

    I'm working on another one right now that's kinda like Wii Tanks crossed with Food Fight crossed with Paintball. And it's somewhat pixel-arty. It's tons o' fun.

    Kudos to you sir.. If you ever need freelance art assets, I'd love to work with ya again.

    Thanks for the kind words guys ( I'm so glad now I didn't slag the game off, fuck me I'd have been badly busted ;) ).

    It was a pleasure for me to work on the game, it's a neat little project, with the art style just elevating it beyond the confines of the time we had.

    We def. all need to do this again.
